Sounds like it is a possibility that the +54 leg of ignition switch is not delivering full power.
If you have a volt meter you could check the voltage at fuses C, 2, 6 and 31 to 37 when you have the problem. They are all supplied power from +54 leg of ignition switch.
If you don't have full battery power and if you can manipulate the problem like you mentioned and that the voltage changes with that, it might be the ignition switch.
