I spent maybe 15 minutes cleaning out the receiver hole so the hitch ball mount would slide in. Weld slag, excess paint, tiny spheres (smaller than sand particles) of what must have been coalesced metal plasma from the welding, maybe some generic dirt, etc. All stuff which should not have been present in a new hitch.
