Yeah, hitting them with 1200, then 1500 then 2000, and then a finer polishing compound has them looking and working great for weeks - then they go into decline. There's just not enough plasticizers left in the plastic, and it gasses off freely on an old lens. Something to seal the fluid in there, sounds like a great idea.

One of the things I love about my '01 - although busted glass lenses, without a replacement you're totally up a creek.
