I bought the piston rings here in Europe, original Mahle, for $120 for the full set for 4 pistons so $360 sounds a bit high. Not sure whether the proparts piston rings are any good.
MAybe it makes sense to replace all 4 pistons since they come from an engine without the noise so you don't have to start guessing which one is the bad one in the current engine.
I have done torn down 5 engines which resulted in 3 engine refurbs and 2 scrapped engines. One of the three I refurbished was borderline with respect to bearing shells but had good cylinder walls, 1 had reasonable shells and good cylinder walls and 1 had such excellent bearing shells (at 400K miles) that I just put them back and only put new piston rings in because they were worn a bit over the spec (gap when in the cylinder). All done in-car. All still three run perfectly fine, no oil consumption. I didn't flatten the head, didn't hone the cylinder walls, just replaced the piston rings, chains and bearing shells. The one where I replaced the rings at 400K miles is now at 560K miles and running very well.
