Tech 2 shows knocks in all cylinders Posted by crawdad [Email] (#1867) [Profile/Gallery] (more from crawdad) on Sat, 30 Jan 2021 17:23:06 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
2000 Saab 9-5 2.3t 168K
The Tech 2 clone is showing an average of 12 knocks in each cylinder after just a 20 minute drive. They continue to increase as I drive. However, there are no other symptoms, no pinging or anything noticeable. So I am wondering if knock detection is overly sensitive or is there be an actual cause such as a malfunctioning IDM?
For weeks, there were also quite a few misfires in all cylinders according to Tech 2. Only other symptoms were poor mpg and P0420. I did a homemade smoke test and repaired several leaks. But what really made a difference was repairing a leak at the exhaust manifold gasket and another in a seam on the cat. Discovered these by forcing air into the system through the tailpipe with a wet/dry vac and spraying soapy water - credit to a youtube video. Tech 2 shows no misfires now and mpg has increased to a more usual, for this car, 25/30. Still have the P0420 but I think there was only about a 100° difference between inlet and outlet of the cat, so that's shot.
Happy to provide you some reading material on this chilly Saturday night!
