I have a 08 9-5 with about 155k miles and it appears the backflow valve is failing on the fuel pump. I have checked fuel pressure and it's very suspect during initial start up after sitting overnight. When it is running it maintains a healthy 40-45 psi and I have never had any driving issues. The problem went away for about a month but now it's back. I was hoping the issues resolved itself with summer fuel switchover but looks to be a problem I should address.
From looking at old posts(I think Mark in marine) a 9-3 pump can be used in place of a 9-5 pump for about half the price. Looking at various suppliers it appears not much available for the new era 9-5's other than PPS but quite a few options for the 9-3's. It sounds like there are some additional piping length to be aware of but functionally the units are the same.
From looking at various instructions I should be able to drain the tank by jumping the fuel pump relay and connect a line to the schrader port at the fuel rail then remove the tank.
If I were to send this out how many hours of labor charge am I looking at for book rates ?
One long shot I was thinking about is adding a check valve on the fuel supply line under the car near the fuel pump. The one thing I'm not sure of is what material is used for the supply line. If it's fairly pliable materia could one just cut and add a inline valve ?
My assumption is the new style pump pump has the check valvel integrated in either the pump assembly or the rigid lines making replacement all but impossible or at the very least difficult requiring a tank drop.
What says the collective ?
