I have done this before, but did it somewhat naively without checking so hoping I didn't just get lucky.
I have a 9-3 right now and in the past I got a 9-5 key, a used one, took the remote out and got it programmed for my 9-3. All worked fine.
I lost my key and need to do this again. Here's what I plan on doing:
- Ordering a new key with my VIN
- Purchasing any old used key, whether from a 9-3 or a 9-5 (the newer style, not the banana fob)
- Getting it reprogrammed with a Tech 2 at some point.
Can I buy ANY of the new style keys? i.e. are the remotes all the same?
Is buying used in great condition just as good as buying new? The new ones are around 150 whereas a used key with the remote can be 50.
Thanks,
bender
