I’ve dealt with the animal nest issue before. Not only do they (rodents) like the engine bay, but also like the fuel pump recess on top of the tank. If you have the access hatch under the rear seat like my 2000 has, pop it open and you may find a nest there. Rodents are attracted to the wiring’s soy-based insulation on the loom. There are peppermint sprays on the web that you use every three months to discourage them. Rodents hate peppermint as it interferes with their ability to follow the scent trail they leave by urinating constantly. Rodents can carry the hanta virus which is something you don’t want to catch so wear gloves when cleaning up followed by hand washing. My trial was with a chipmunk which is now gone thanks to a copperhead. Think I got the spray bottle from Walmart on line. The chipmunk also liked my other car’s engine since it was a warm place to hide in winter, but only left cracked nuts behind. Luckily, only one wire had the insulation removed at the fuel pump and was still intact so I was able to just tape it up. I retreat that spot too.
Only one pic can be added to a message. If you try for two, the first one is then gone.
