2003 9-5 heater bypass valve mystery Posted by kwgrafx [Email] (#1978) [Profile/Gallery] (more from kwgrafx) on Wed, 2 Nov 2022 09:51:35 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My local kinda-knows-saabs mechanic is stumped. Mom's 2003 9-5 linear with 80k easy CA miles on it, now lives in CO and recently sprung a coolant leak. Mechanic diagnosed as the heater bypass valve so he replaced it. now, no heat. And he swears everything is hooked up correctly. BUT... when he connects his Autel computer to it, he can trigger the solenoid, and the heater starts heating! also, when the car is warmed up, the 2 aluminum pipes in passenger footwell: inside one is cold, outer one is HOT. When he manually triggers solenoid, inside one heats up (I'm pretty sure, not positive on this). We have even swapped the ACC modules from my 2005 9-5 and it does not heat (everything seems to work, and no codes) in the 2003, but the 2003 ACC works fine in my 2005 (no codes and heat etc. functioning).
It is my understanding from other posts on here that the neutral state of the heater bypass valve is OPEN and that only when the ACC is set to LO is the bypass triggered, but in our case, triggering electronically with his Autel does something that allows it to heat and it works! ANYthing to try would be greatly appreciated. The car has been in the shop 2 weeks now. THANK YOU!
