This is something that is extremely easy to do. We typically don't detail and wax new cars (it's not necessary), but if you rinse off the adhesives and use a dirty chamois to dry, you have a swirled car. This is why I sneak into the detial bay once a week and throw away the chamois'. A dirty chamois is bound to happen when you rinse and wash as many cars as we do, the difference in swirl marks and none is simply in whether or not the chamois get replaced on a regular basis.
The actual detail guys never swirl a car (at least not here), they are the ones that take pride in their work. It's the $6.ºº per hour lot porters that swirl the car. Why? Because their being paid $6.ºº per hour and they don't care. They justify it by saying, "It's not my car anyway".
As I said before, it's frustrating.
Cheers,
Brian.
