Deja Vu. Bob:
My almost exact 2016 scenario. My battery was low, I jumped the car and drove it hoping to recharge in the process, but after that I had a parasitic drain that would kill the battery. A new battery had the same issues.
After pulling and replacing every fuse on the car with an ammeter in the circuit, I had not isolated the issue. The exciter lead on the alternator would not come off, the stud just turned. I finally had to use diagonal side cutters ( and replace the terminal end while under the car) - and the drain was gone. The old battery with either a dead or weak cell destroyed the alternator diodes. The low charge light is directly in the circuit for the exciter wire on the alternator and activates when current can flow backwards in a low alternator output situation. Some article I found much later warned about trying to charge a weak battery with the alternator stating you’d likely lose the alternator. Also found my Indy’s tech had not bothered to put the right fender air duct to the alternator back after the 2010 alternator issue.
I found a great write-up on the other board for changing the alternator without pulling the right front axle on a V6 (the process that makes it a 5 hour by the book process) where the writer claimed it took 2 hours. I did it in fits and starts in a composite 3 hours over a few days.
My $.02.
