Look on line for Rodent Vehicle Protection bu MightyMite. It's peppermint laced spray. Rodents don't like it. Must be retreated about every 2 months in summer.
Rodents go after the insulation of the wires because it's been made with soy protein, not petroleum. Their teeth continually grow, so they will gnaw at anything and can destroy the wiring loom on the car.
There are articles on this issue on line. Search for "why do mice eat my car's wires " in a search engine. My problem was a chipmunk. There are recipes to make your own spray online as well.
