On my car the battery cable corrosion yielded long cranks before starting as the cable struggled to carry enough load to power both the starter motor and the electronic to fire the fuel. The crank speed (revolutions) were not materially impacted, IIRC, until the bling crank sufficiently exhausted the battery. Replacing the cable was indeed a game-changer though, completely rejuvenating the car and starting on just a couple cranks.
When the starter began making noises and I replaced it was when I noticed a marked increase in cranking speed. I can’t say I’ve noticed battery failing causing slower cranks; it seems to me that batteries today are less likely to show the old classic signs of decline, rather they tend to work fine until suddenly they no longer do, making it harder ton preemptively replace. Just my observations over the 21 years I’ve been driving my current 9-5.
