This may not be something you want to diy, but honestly if it is not too bad and you are not worrying about making it a show car, my approach has been to remove the plastic parts (what you see is the tip of the iceberg), wirebrush, POR15, and if there are any small holes after wire brushing, I soak some fibreglass in POR15 and apply it over the hole. That stuff is indestructible. Another coat of POR15, a touch of filler, sand the filler, prime and paint and it is hardly noticeable once the plastic parts are back on and especially once it is covered in road grime again. Good idea to spray that area with rust check or equivalent and clean it out regularly. $50 of materials is enough to do several cars of doglegs and save the $$ for tires and DIC modules... We live in the rust belt of Canada and this level of repair lasts about 5 years. POR15 is a little hard to find, but it is great stuff!
