I usually use the Zimmermann Z-Coat here in the rust belt as uncoated rotors start to rust after the first winter and it eats into the braking surface. I like the Akebono Euro pads, but as you say, some will think I’m nuts because of the braking feel of ceramics. For my money they stop just fine and that combination provides long life with little dust. If your rotors are as old as you say you may have some problems with the little screws that hold the rotors in place. They can rust and be hard to remove so you might want be ready with some removal techniques because that shallow hole doesn’t give you much torque ability before it starts to round out. Then you might have to drill the head off. I’ve used the penetrant that also freezes with success, but maybe I’ve just been lucky they weren’t badly rusted. But definitely order some new screws and put lubricant on them to prevent seizing.
