Yes, for a 2008 you must drop the tank to replace the fuel pump. Much more work than the earlier 9-5s where the pump could be removed from the hatch under the back seat. The hatch is still there but the pump assembly won’t fit through and there are connectors you can’t access that way. Make sure your fuel gauge is working before you just replace the internal pump. The later fuel pumps seem to have fuel sensors that fail more often. As I recall, the sensor from the 9-3, which was available as a separate part, works on the later 9-5 pumps. I suppose if one were replacing the pump in the assembly you could also replace the sensor as a precaution. The sensor just snaps on and plugs in. A functioning fuel gauge is an inspection item in PA so we can’t just let it go like some do in other ‘
