To continue this important discussion, I see Pierburg and Vemo internal replacement pumps available online, both claiming to be German suppliers. Has anyone had experience with these pumps or an opinion? The Vemo is considerably more expensive of the two. On the matter of the fuel gauge, I had one go on about two years where it would read empty until the full tank went down a little, but eventually it failed completely. I did verify that the NG 9-3 sensor, available as a separate part, did fit the 9-5 pump housing and function correctly. That might be a better option if replacing the internal pump rather than going without a gauge.
