It depends on how anal you are and how much free time you have ;-)
As far as I know, what matters is that you avoid car washes that use rotating brushes. Instead, find one that has rotating cloth strips that slap at your car.
A few years ago, Road & Track magazine showed a photo of a Ferrari going through such a car wash. Irate readers wrote in, accusing them of harsh treatment of a piece of automotive art. The editors responded by pointing out that the picture was taken at the Ferrari factory as the brand new Ferrari was going through the routine process of being prepped for delivery. My attitude is "if it's good enough for the Ferrari factory, it's good enough for my Saab".
Of course, some people hate these too. I don't know why. (Maybe they had bad experience with the brush-washes and never tried the slap-washes.)
