I had a glass antenna mounted on my 9-5 when I picked it up in Trollhättan, but the installation was far from neat. Beeing a radio engineer, I quickly decided to try to fit an antenna inside the brak-light without making it appear through the glass window. I designed a small dipole antenna, and managed to fit in exactly behind the black mask of the brake-light at the rear window. A check with an antenna reflectometer showed an adequate match on the European GSM-frequency band. The polarisation is far from optimum, almost horisontal, and with a radiation pattern that points out +/- 90 degrees from the vehicle. But since the GSM radio nets uses cross polarisation, the worst loss is some -3dB (half) which is negligable compared to reflexes and other fading phenomenons.
