I can't say how long the Saab bulbs last, but Audi xenon bulbs are supposed to last _at least_ 5 times longer than conventional halogen bulbs. And Audis don't seem to have the problem of premature halogen failures like the 9-5 does. Essentially, the xenons are expected to last "the life of the car", whatever that really means. (Maybe the life of the Audi Free Maintenence Program.)
Audi replacement xenon bulbs are about $150, I think......
The enormous improvement in illumination is worth any additional cost you may incur 5 or 10 years from now. However, it isn't smart to use your xenons for DRLs. Why use those pricey lights just to mark your presence, unless, of course, you want to make a road fashion statement? ;) Have your fog lights enabled via Tech II and pull fuse 35. Then you can use your cheap halogens for DRLs when you feel like it.
IMHO, of course.
My wife's A4 has xenons. Sure wish my '01 Aero Wagon did.....
