The ring mounts behind the seat and front seat bars are for TOP tethers, not Lower Tethers, IE LATCH. The ring mounts and Seat bars are to be used in conjunction with the Seat belt. Do not try to use LATCH connectors on a new rear facing infant seat on these, as they are desinged to supplement the seat belt.

Another important point I am still researching. (I have a '99 9-5 wagon)The owner's manual has a huge yellow box describing the danger of the center arm rest coming down at high speed and hurting an infant in a rear facing seat. It shows a nice center arm rest securing strap being used on a 9-5 sedan - you just put it through the center pass through door and use that door to secure the arm rest. I called SAAB to order the strap without realizing it wouldn't work with the wagon. I called again, and they told me my Dealer would show me how to operate the center armrest locking mechanism. My service advisor didn't know where it is this morning, and he is researching it. Does anyone here know where this mechanism is, and why it wasn't detailed in the manual? Also - some 9-5 wagons have the D-Rings pre-installed and some don't. I called SAAB and they sent ONE ring, even though there are 3 sockets. If you don't have them pre-installed, you might want to tell them you are expecting triplets. :-)

I also have a '01 9-3 5 door. Although SAAB says the armrest securing strap isn't necessary for the 9-3's, I am going to use the strap they originally sent for the 9-5 on my 9-3 "just in case".
