with 0W30 Mobil 1. It has the same longevity as 0W40, afik, and will be in as good condition as 0W40 when the "change" light goes on. The shortcoming, if any, is the lower viscosity, giving less "cushioning" in the bearings. Last time I was at AutoZone (shooting the cover wrap for NINES #261) Mobil 1 0W30 and 0W40 were the same price. Even at bulk product, inegotiated prices, I doubt one is more than a penny a gallon different. Surely the 0W40 has more of the costly Viscosity Modifiers, but other than that, I suspect the products are identical. I suspect the same base oil, same percentage and composition of other additives, just a bit more VM.
FWIW, Mrs. G's Olds has the very same oil change monitor program, but tuned for "conventional" oil - it lights up at 6000 miles under combined city/highway driving. When it begins receiving Saab Turbo Oil, I will follow the light.
