Car has 23K miles now. I'd say that the problem has been worse and more frequent since 10K miles. Go figure.
Saab factory rep says this is from sulfur build-up on the catalytic converter. My comment to him wass that we're in New England, where nearly every third car is a Saab. If they can't make a car that won't run properly on the gas that's available in this area, then maybe their cars are unsuitable for sale in this area.
Another thought is maybe they need to replace the catalytic converter, while under warranty, at each oil change at the dealer.
Everything that I've been able to read on the Net, some of which is written by auto tech schools, indicates this type of odor is from a restriction in the converter, or a failure of an emission system component. Most explain that the converter needs replacement.
Anyone want a deal on a perfectly maintained 9-5 wagon? Sorry, gas mask not included.
