Six Saab leases in the last four years plus a Aurora lease four years before. Here's what I've learned.
Lease for 12,000 miles unless you know for sure you won't need that many. You are going to be charged the same amount per mile over that whether you lease for a stated number or lease by the mile. So lease by the mile and pay for the exact number over when you turn it in. If you lease for 15K and don't use all 15, lessor gets the money.
Never pay anything down! Roll downpayments into the monthly lease.
Never pay security fees.
Lease for three years because money factor (interest rate) is far better.
Always make sure you lease for less mileage than the bumper to bumper warranty.
Get the residual as high as you can. All my cars have much higher residuals than even what is Edmunds' retail. No way is Saab going to recover this differential (gap) when it comes time to turn it in. Saab will probably sell it to you for far less than the residual if it knows it is going to take a hit at an auction. Chase was making some really fantastic deals on their leases before Saab took over all of them. My last turned in Saab lease sat at the dealer's for eight months. Make them a low ball offer if you want the car and make them throw in an extended warranty. If the car is a lemon, for Christ's sake give it back. If it's really been good and you want it, you'll be surprised at just how cheap you can get it for.
