I had 99 9-3 and did drain the factory fill Texamatic ATF @12,000 miles and filled with Mobil 1 ATF.
Became noticably smoother, but did not make it idle like a Lexus ES300. Most noticable was when shift from P to R in cold morning. It virtually eliminated huge knock I had before.
Wondering to do the same for my new 03 linear in a year or two. It definetely idles rougher than the 9-3 I had (when sitting in gear) probably from larger capacity torque converter and pump. But I'm not that concerned at the idle quality.
