However, many here advise against it, as does Saab. Saab claims the friction charactoristics are different for synthetic ATF and can lead to premature wear.
I'm not sure whether there's real science behind that position, or not. Mobil 1 claims to be a Dextron III equivalent, and Dextron III is the spec for the transmission. It may be that Saab or their Japanese supplier hasn't gotten around to doing the certification tests that would confirm the superiority of syn over dino oil.
Right now, I figure there's still 3 litres of the old stuff in there with the Mobil 1 -unless you power flush, you never drain the stuff in the TC. The car runs well and shifts smoothly.
