Dealer support is an issue with Saab too. There are good ones and poor ones--shop the dealer while you're shopping the car. Are you in the Reno or the Vegas area? There's always the possibility of popping into California should your local dealer prove unworthy (not that I'm recommending that, mind you).
I have a sedan, not a wagon, and did consider Audi when shopping. The A4 was a fun car to drive but too tight a fit for me (especially in back). The A6 at that time ('99) was verrry slow and easily eliminated. I ended up with an SE sedan for less than a loaded A4, so have no complaints. I'm certain I'd enjoy an Aero even more. I will say that I think Audi interiors are nicer than Saab's, that's about the only area where you might miss your A4, that and Quattro if you've got it. An Aero's acceleration will make you forget these differences pretty quickly.
Deals depend both on Saab USA and local market conditions. If we're really in an economic slowdown, there will be lots of inventory at year's end, and deals will be aplenty. However, if the 9-5 really is undergoing a significant facelift, they may have to shut down the line early to retool for the new model. This could dry up the supply of 2001s. My guess is that a rare car like the Aero wagon is not going to be easy to get a great deal on.
