I just recently bought a 9-5 4cyl LPT, but had also considered the v6. I decided that the 4cyl was the better choice for me for a few reasons listed below.
Saab's 4cyl engine is an evolution of the decades of work they have done perfecting previous generations of the engine. Their big claim to fame is the horsepower & torque they've mangaged squeeze out of a 4 banger.
All Saab high performance sedans (Viggen & Aero) use the 4cyl engine.
Aftermarket ECU upgrades are all made for the 4cyl engine. I don't think there are any for the v6.
The 4cyl is made by Saab at their factory in Södertälje, Sweden... I think (but nor sure) the V6 is a modified GM Opel engine, not sure where it's made.
The V6 uses a timing belt, the 4cyl uses a chain and should last longer.
However that being said, it is still a personal choice... If you have the opportunity, try test driving a 6 vs a 4. That alone may answer the question for you.
