My experience with the V6 is that premium gas yields higher mileage than midgrade or regular. Whether it exactly matches the cost difference, I couldn't say. I live in California, with a top octane of 91 (boo!). When we're out of state where there's higher octane (92 or 93), the mileage noticeably jumps (I never get 30mpg in Calif., but do in, say, Oregon).
Note that there are other regional variables in fuel besides octane.
Acceleration *seems* better too, but I've never attempted to measure it. It makes sense that the boost would peak quicker with higher octane, even with an LPT turbo. Also, the ignition timing should advance further.
Note that the V6's compression ratio is greater than the LPT4's, so as they say: YMMV.
