Lola,
Glad you love your car. I have a 9-5 2.3 also and it is a great car.
However, I have a different opinion of you near collision:
"even an emergency evasive maneuver when someone in the left lane suddenly decided to share the right one with us. The other driver didn't look before changing lanes, just came on over, and then compounded the problem by hitting her brakes, instead of moving back to the left, when she finally realized we were there too."
This is way it is against the law to pass on the right side unless in slow moving urban traffic. Now it really pisses me off when people hog the left lane when not passing. But It is equally bad for people to pass on the right. That other driver most likely saw you approaching fast from the rear and decided to get over for you. They misjuged your speed and pulled into the right without checking their mirrors again.
Or,
They just did not see you. And that is why passing on the right is WRONG and is illegal in most states and in most other civilized countries. Passing on the right (on the Motorway) in France or Germany will cost you your liscense.
Not to sound to preachy, but the left lane hogging and the right lane passing piss me off !
-Doug
