I live in CA, and contacted my nearest Saab dealer regarding an extended (GM) warranty (from 50k to 100k). If I get a warranty, I think GM is the way to go. Anyway, I have an '00 Aero w/30k now, and am covered to 50k. The Saab has already needed some things under warranty (a new stereo head unit, a new battery, gas tank buffer (stopping the thump). I've also been pretty happy with the services at the oil change intervals.

I digress. The dealer quoted me $2,600 for the 50k to 100k extension. That's a lot of cash to come up with one time. From what I gather, in that 50k to 100k time, if I don't buy the warranty, I'd have to pay for I assume 2 major services at 60k and 90k, plus oil changes at 70k, 80k, and 90k out of pocket for sure. The other things that might go out could include the battery (again--Saab batteries suck!) and the DI Cassette. Totalling all that together seems to add up to about $1,500 at most to me. I don't know if Aeros are as prone to the "blue smoke" issue--but if the turbo went out that would put me over the top for sure.

I guess what I'm asking is if I'm really going to wind up on the short end if I go for it. It's always a gamble, and the 9-5 is supposedly one of the most reliable European makes out there. $2,600 is a little high I think though.

Any opinions on what other buyers did or what they experienced on '00 Aeros from 50k to 100k? Thanks!

Scott
