As a salesperson for an Audi-VW dealership I can sympathize with your problem, but I can also see you have a basic misunderstanding of the process. Car dealers sell cars but don't loan money or actually lease cars themselves. This is done either by banks or more commonly the financial arm of the manufacturer. The dealer has no real control over the rates the banks set. In the increasingly competitive world of car financing and leasing, rates can vary not just daily, but hourly. Our dealership uses Lease-Link which shops a couple of dozen banks and leasing companies and shows us the best three rates. I'll run a lease one day and VW Credit will have the best rate. A few days later Well Fargo or Chase will have a better rate--or a worse rate and that will be the best I can get. Suddenly the payment is $20 bucks higher per month and I'm the bad guy. Just to add to the fun sometimes the manufacturer will do exactly what happened to you--spring in new rate on us with no prior warning. We don't usually find out about it until it's in effect. Sometimes it's a good surprised, sometimes it's not, and sometimes customers get caught on the wrong end of it like you did. Generally the rates change the first couple of days of the month and we very rarely know exactly what's going to happen until it happens. Your dealer gave you the best rate he had available, and you thought it was a good enough deal to go ahead. Your dealer would have been every bit as happy to give you the better rate had they known about it--beleieve me. Haven't you ever paid list price for a sport jacket and two weeks later they have a half off sale--it sucks,it happens and that's life. A lot of people would be happy to affort one 40 thousand dollar car let along two or three--quit whining and enjoy your new Saab.
