Thanks to all for sharing your perspectives on 9-5 reliability.
There is a "human interest" background for this inquiry that may interest some: While in Europe in the military I had a Mercedes 190D on order for a year, but had to cancel it due to a new model year cost increase. After that, no other car "felt" acceptable until I drove a Saab. I picked up a new '86 900S from the Sweden factory in Dec '85 - the same year my first daughter was born. It has proven a good choice. I am still driving that car daily (235K+ miles), and it is still in great shape. In fact I only need another car now because that daugher (born the same year as the 900S) is now of driving age. And the reason I only have 235K on an'86 is that my wife and I were able to split our mileage with another Saab. This one, an '85 900 that gave us 211K faithful miles before we passed it on to a relative.
I think you are all affirming that I can reasonably expect the same from any well maintained 9-5 model. Thanks again.
-Don S.
