Mounting options for a Valentine 1

I am thinking seriously about a Valentine 1 to replace my venerable, but still reasonably effective Passport, considering the terminal velocity and power of my new Aero.
Where are you folks mounting the main unit? The sunvisor is not so great a location since it's so far back, almost overhead. Suction cup mount in the center of the windshield? What about the power wire if you decide to hard-wire it?
I am thinking about fabricating a mirror mount (clamped to the mirror support arm, and extending down below the mirror), that would allow you to easily clip the Val 1 on. It would be close to a power source at the map light console, and the coverage front- and backwards should be excellent.
Where should the remote display go?
