Most modern Turbo engines are reliable.
Question is how long will the Turbos last.

The Twin Turbo configuration of the AUDI 2.7L
engines has a very bad track record in this regard.
There are oil starvation and burn out problems as
well a asymetric charging problems which can result
in the damage of one of the 2 turbos used in the Audi
engine. The Audi engine can also suffer damage due
to unequal backpressure if one turbo is not working
right, then once cyl. bank will suffer asymetric loads
which can wreck havoc if not detected early on. It is
difficult to say which % of these engines suffer any
of the above damage, but with milage over 60000 miles
any of the above becomes likely. Interesting fact, in
Europe the resale value of any Audi using that engine
is lower then for other versions.

The 9-5 engine used in the Aero has only 1 Turbo so
this eliminates many problems to start with. The unit
is from Mitsubishi, and they do make good Turbochargers.
It is also an oversized unit capable of blowing up to 20PSI
and the Aero engine does not lose any power up to 10'000 feet
of altitude if you use high octane fuel (93-94, 98RON)
(I would like to add here that you feel the power loss
at altitude only up to 2000RPM then the Turbo gives full boost)

For a 2001 SAAB 9-5 Aero, as for all 9-5 Aeros, there have
been hardly no Turbo problems and if you don't tune you car
to more power, it should last around 90000 to 100000 miles
even longer if you use good oil and chnage it every 7000 miles.

I think that 9-5 Aero drivers will confirm that the engine
is bullet-proof. Even those that tuned up to 300Hp have
no problems.

Regards,
Coolknight
