Depreciation follows the old rules of supply and demand, and unfortunately the market's perception of Saabs is not very high. It has nothing to do with the intrinsic value of the car (if there is such a thing!) This is why I have bought used Saabs in the past, after they had taken their depreciation hit. It's also why I drove Volvos for awhile--they hold their value well and (at least in the Seattle area) and may sell for a premium over Blue Book. Hopefully the 9-5 will change public perception of Saabs, but it may take awhile for the depreciation figures to catch up. I bought a new one only because I intend to keep it for 10 or 12 years---if my kids don't talk me out of it first. And if they do---I'll buy another one.
In the meantime, you should be able to find a buyer willing to pay a fair price for your excellent 9-5. Several of my friends and co-workers, impresssed with my car, are waiting for 2-year lease returns to come on the market. THere should be such people in your area too. Good luck.
