I sell Audis and VW for a living and take a certain amount of ribbing for driving a Saab because they are still considered a bit of an "oddball" brand. All cars depreciate rather substantially from new in varying degrees. Saabs aren't amoung the best(Mercedes and BMW--lower end models)but they aren't amount the worst either. Cadillacs and Lincolns are horible, but if you really want a jolt buy a top of the line Jaguar. They'll depreciate more in the first two years than your Saab cost new. People who work in the car business rarely buy new cars for that very reason--they'd much prefer to buy your "creampuff" trade-in for wholesale. Buying new only makes sense if you keep a car 8 to 10 years. If you can afford it and don't mind taking the big depreciation hit all of the time then go ahead and buy a new car every two or three years--your Saab sales person will love you. If you want to spent your money intelligently, buy a Saab and drive it two or three hundred thousand miles--you'd have to rebuild your engine and transmission twice a year to spend anywhere near what you're spending on depreciation now.
