You will undoubtedly get many opinions on this subject, so here's another. I initially replaced the fossil oil at 5000 miles with Mobil 1 10-30 and a Mobil 1 filter. Then did the same thing at 10,000 miles. At 15,000 miles, I changed the filter only, and topped up with Mobil 1. At 20,000 miles I repeated the 10,000 mile change. Therefore, the oil and filter are replaced at 10,000 mile increments, and the filter at 5000 miles with about a 1/2 quart top-up. Seems to work for me. By the way, at 6000 miles, your engine should be well "broken in". Regardless of the schedule you finally select, I would strongly recommend use of a good synthetic oil.
