I did it about 8 years ago (not too recent), but it was a GREAT experience, and plan to do it again next spring on a 9-5 Aero. The entire thing from pickup, factory tour, insurance for the car while we were there, to drop off was completely smooth. I paid $500 below the IDS set price for the car, but I don't know if there is room for negotiation in todays IDS pricing... I also don't know if the $500 loyalty incentive applies to IDS (Mike?)...
When I did the program I paid cash. I looked into getting financing, but the lending institutions I spoke with were a little leery of giving me $25K 30 days before the car was built and they had a solid VIN. Maybe that has changed, but I doubt it.
Anyway, you can find a lot of info on the Saab web page (http://www.saabusa.com/main/US/en/ids_intro.xml, click on European Delivery on the left).
