My '99 2.3 5-spd. with 31K+ needs replacements for its OEM Michelin Energy MXV4s.
I've looked at various previous posts on this site, and have also checked out tirerack.com pretty thoroughly.
I want a V rating, will not accept an H, as it seems improper and even unsafe to have tires which do not match the car's capability, whether or not that capability is fully used. This throws out the Bridgestone Revos.
I now live in Eastern Connecticut (moved from Miami!), so snow will be a reality, though the local plowing operation impressed me during last December's blizzard. I think, then, that a year-round tire will be OK here, probably from the Grand Touring All Season category.
The local dealer (Secor, New London) emphatically recommends Michelins, states that any other brand will bring complaints re. shimmy, alignment, ride, etc.
The choice seems to be between the Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus (apparently quite an improvement over my OEM MXV4s) and the Yokohama Avid H4/V4. Tirerack.com customer survey results favor the Yokohama in every category but snow traction, noise comfort and treadwear, but re. treadwear, the Yokohama has a better warranty.
I'm seeking your collective wisdom re. two questions:
1) Any thoughts/experiences/recommendations re. a specific tire, given my parameters?
2) What about going to 225/50/16?
Thanks for your help!
