Had test driven most comparable SUV's. Bought the Toureg after one test drive. Could never find a base model of the others. Toureg was the absolute base V6 model and was already loaded and beautiful. Wife loves it. So do I. Gets a lot of attention on the road. Trying to be objective: leatherette not leather, but very high quality; could use a litle more lumbar support but a wedge cushion cured this; ride a little stiffer, but still overall good (especially love turning radius)--optional air shocks would improve further; V6 has plenty of low end torque, but rapid highway acceleration is a little sluggish (helped by fast switch to sport mode); gas mileage not great but V8 would be slightly worse; not the most storage room, but adequate for three big retrievers and a growing 16 year old; a bit of effort to get back seats down. I recommend you test drive it in as many settings as you can and sit it in a while. I regret that we couldn't wait for the Saab SUV, but this was really a lot of car for the money. And it lets me keep my 9-5 for cool cruising.
