You can just return the car back to Saab. I think that there is a fee of $300 or so, and you can just walk away. One advantage of the balloon payment is that since sales tax is already incorporated into the final price, when it's time to return the car, you just turn it in like a lease, or refinance the residual, since the residual already includes the sales tax. Also, Saab offers additional $2000 in rebate for going with Saab balloon payment. It's also more convenient to refinance the car with baloon payment. Unlike the lease, there are no penalties and fees involved when you decide to refinance the car, since you are technically "buying" the car by paying salestax up front. Most Saab owners will take the car with baloon payment, and turn around and refinance it for lower interest rate after three monts (you are required to wait thre monts/three payments before refinancing).
