Last October I posted a similar question and many of the same folks here gave me the same responces they have given you. After 40+ years in stick shift cars, I opted for an 03' Areo SW with the auto. So after a year, do I miss the stick? Yes! But only about 10% of the time. In sport mode, the auto does a fine job in most situations, and I always have it in sport mode. It doesn't always downshift to the correct gear out of a corner in everday traffic, but its no big deal. In heavy traffic I have grown to love it. As for the paddle shifters, it a complete gimmick. It doesn't shift as fast as in auto/sport mode and it does not give you complete control over the trans. Futher, paddles may be fine for race cars were you don't shift your hands around, but in the real world the shifter should have been left on the console to be of any real use.
In any case, the Areo SW is a great car. I also went back and forth between steel greay and silver and ended up with the silver. And, I love the vented seats.
