And I know what you mean about a black car. It just BEGS you to look at it, especially after all that energy you spent on it. I wired an old stereo in the garage with good quality speakers. This seems to make the work go easier.
I'm thinking about using a 3M product (39002) "Perfect It" to eliminate what "swirl" I do have. On test patchs (the leading edge of the engine bonnet and the RR panel) this stuff eliminated a troublesome smudge and took off surface paint from another vehicle ground into mine.
Even though the blackness is overwhelming and surface wet-looking, this 3M stuff seemed to take what few very tiny lines I do have an completely erase them on these test patches.
The packaging reads: "Effectively removes grade 1200 and finer sand scratches, other fine scratches, medium oxidation, coarse swirl marks or water spots and leaves a fine finish."
They say you need to be a pro to use a buffer. This is why all my strokes on the surface of the car with the exception of applying the carnuba with my bare fingertips and palms have been straight ones.
