All of those stats miss the largest factor... THE DRIVER!
Psychohistory tells us that large populations of people behave predictably... Soccer moms in Volvo wagons WILL have fewer per capita deaths than teenaged boys in Camaros.
You have probably noticed that there are fewer Saabers then drivers of many other makes of car and that they tend to deviate from the norm. This makes it much harder to apply psychohistory and predict the safty quotient of any one car/driver combination. However I will try (with appologies to Asimov)...
Given:
o Saaber LIKE to drive, often FAST.
o Saab cars, in general, and particularly when Turbo'd, easily go FAST.
o Speed is often a contributing factor to accidents, particularly fatal ones.
These factors should in general predict that Sabbers should be at greater risk then most drivers. Yet the historical data presented earlier in this thread disprove the genreal prediction.
We are left to conclude that in spite of the high risk factors mentioned above Saabers drive better (avoid accidents better) than their Euro-sedan driving counterparts AND that even when involved are more likely to walk away!
I know... This is horse pucky, but there is a grain of truth in there and it was fun to write.
