I drove an Audi 1.8T and 3.0 - 5spd in the 1.8T and 3.0 was an auto (no 6 speeds avail for test drive). The 1.8T was horrible in terms of lag and response - handled well, but no way I could drive this car.
The 3.0 was somewhat responsive, but its not a turbo. About the same off the line as the aero, but at highway speeds it was night and day making the aero a hands down winner. I actually think the aero priced out less too!
Other things -- Saab HK stereo was much better than the Bose in the Audi. Gas mileage is better in the Aero. Seats/support were much better in the aero. Crash test ratings better in the aero. Also consider your local service dept for each car -- The local Audi dealer was so-so whereas the Saab dealer in my area is fantastic and gives Saab loaners.
About the only thing that was nice about the Audi was how solid the car felt. I also feel this way about the Aero though. In being picky the aero has a few "cheaper" components, but overall they just didn't matter given the performance of the aero.
All this and I never mentioned room/space.
BTW - I traded an Audi allroad for my 02 Aero so I am no stranger to Audis and gave it a fair shot. I also would have order the 6 speed manual had I thought of buying the A4. The A6 avant would be a better comparison, but that has a weak engine. The allroad costs too much and has too many gremlins.
Good Luck! Easy choice between those two...now compare an S6 avant and I might change my recommendation (if we don't consider $$).
