Thanks Keeton for the info,particularly on the issue of how the satellite signals are apparently not really CD quality, but as you said, more like MP-3. I'm used to true CD,ie: 44 Khz sampling in both home and car systems,along with pretty high quality amplifiers and speakers to bring it all home, and have been avoiding going the FM modulated route for an XM install until I exhaust the possibility of having it done via a direct connection. I'm having that looked into this week,and if it can be done,it is still my preference.My nephew just did a sirius install in his car with a modulator, and I am anxious to hear how that has worked out for him.
It is interesting that all the PR stuff put out by both providers talk about CD quality,which I guess they feel is OK if they are talking to the non technically educated public, but when using that terminology around those of us who can differentiate it, it really is misleading. YOu say though that S/N ratio is not important in a vehicle? NOt sure I can accept that,since a lot of the time spent listening inthe car is during times that ambient noise levels are very low,like sitting in traffic,and having that parameter as good as possible is actually very important,at least in my opinion. What was your reason for concluding otherwise?
