I own two 9-5 SE's, 99 sedan and 00 wagon. You must test drive these cars. Yes Saab's depreciate which is why I lease and you should consider leasing unless you get a really great deal. The 9-5 has one major advantage over the other cars and that is safety. The 9-5 feels much more like a performance car than the TL and has much more room than the A4 and more utility than either. It also has more class and more exclusivity. Of note is that JD Power recently gave the 9-5 the best rating of its class. But where Saabs really outperform other cars is real world safety. The average car in 98 and 99 had 19 deaths per 100,000 registered vehicles. Saab had 2 deaths per 100,000 registered vehicles in their 98, 99 and 00 cars. By comparison Volvo had about 6 with their 98, 99 and 00 models; very good but not nearly as good as Saab. Hope this helps. Good luck with your choice.
