But my M99 V6 tranny failed miserably at 55K miles (imported = out of warranty). I admit I liked to push it to the limit, but no missed oil changes, no nonsense. The thing just started making screeching noises in 1st gear, and resisted when put into reverse. Surprisingly, no "check gbox" message. I must admit though I did drive it to the tranny specialist on its own four wheels. Verdict - the "forward direct" (whatever this is) gears crumbled and started falling apart. Repairshop changed about 30 pounds worth of gears, not to mention the stuff that you need to change when you take the tranny apart (all sorts of washers, seals, oil, etc.)
And what do you think - next week I am back with a Check Gbox message. This time they said the oil pressure sensor was sticking, causing problems. And this part can only be changed with the whole valve module = ex$pensive, so they cleaned the sensor and gave the car back to me.
Result - I have done another 6K miles since without major problems, but the tranny is a bit noisier now and there is some vibration when the auto is engaged. I shall most probbaly have to sell this otherwise great car. Bummer.
