Road trip concerns...

Heya folks!
I'm going to be taking a solo road trip in February from Denver to Connecticut. About 1850 miles in total. I have that concern of the DI failing on me. I saw in a previous post that they supposedly improved it for 2003 (I have a 2003 9-5 Aero), and it now has a different part number. I of course just called the dealership and they couldn't confirm that for me. Also, I'm at 8700 miles right now, and wanted to get my 10k mile servicing done right before the trip. Dealership just told me they cannot do it unless im within 50 miles of 10k...either 9950 or 10050 miles. Has anyone else heard of this? Just doesn't seem right to me. I don't see myself throwing on another 1000 miles by Feb 20th as I work at home and don't have a commute.
Anything else I should be worried about on this trip? Kansas is a big state with nothing in it...and not much for cell phone reception. I know I should have 100% faith in my car...but you just never know what could happen. How likely is it for the DI to fail within 10k miles? I've heard the problem is caused by heat...and driving for 30 hours will certainly warm things up. Should I get a spare 'just incase'?
Thanks for any help or advice...you all are the best and most informative bunch!
